Berlin vibraphonist

& Marcus Gartschock

The "Berlin Vibraphonists"

- are a duo of the two Berlin vibraphonists Hauke Renken and Julius Heise.

Both musicians studied or are studying jazz vibraphone with one of the world stars in this subject, Prof. David Friedman, and are already an established part of the Berlin vibraphone scene.

The vibraphone is in the name, but by no means the focus of the band. The musicians are constantly enriching themselves with other mallet instruments such as marimba, glockenspiel, xylosynth or malletkat as well as many other percussion instruments. Through improvisations and fixed arrangements, they discover many different areas and colors of music.

Marcus Gartschock

- is one of the few male jazz singers in Germany. He is a scholarship holder of the renowned Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin association and plays with numerous jazz formations and big bands. Concert engagements have taken him to other European countries and to China. He is a member of various vocal ensembles and sings in the Berlin Soloist Choir under the direction of Christian Steyer and in the ensemble of the Volksbühne Berlin. Since 2011 he has been studying singing at the Jazz Institute Berlin of the University of the Arts and the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin.

The program

"When Christmas Comes To Town"

“What would Christmas be without music?” - this is what the Berlin vibraphonists, Julius Heise and Hauke Renken, asked themselves and, with this in mind, worked out a program for the most beautiful time of the year.

Since Christmas should always be something special, this program is not only performed as a duo for vibraphone and marimba, but is an additional one  designed for a singer.

The musicians are supported by the Berlin vocalist Marcus Gartschock, one of the few male jazz singers in Germany.

Together, the three musicians interpret classics from the Christmas repertoire from “Santa Claus is Coming To Town” to “I'm standing at your nativity scene here”. In addition to these completely new arrangements, some of Hauke Renken's own compositions will also be heard.

"We are looking forward to particularly beautiful concerts this year," say the musicians themselves about their program .
